Take two kids on a 10 hour road trip? No problem

As a reward for some school success, Jamie wanted to visit his aunt Anna in Texas. We decided to go over Veterans Day weekend and to make the 9.5 hour drive from Memphis. We left after school and drove through the night which was honestly the best idea because the kids slept the entire trip.

We had a slow start to our morning after the long night drive. Our first stop was some Texas BBQ for lunch, nothing fancy but good. Then, we headed out to see the dinosaurs at Sweet Eats Fruit Farm in Georgetown. The farm had so many different activities for the kids that the dinosaurs seemed like an after thought. We did a corn maze, played games, went on a hay ride, pet some goats, bounced around, shot apple cannons, and still missed out on lots at the farm. It was deceptively hot in November, I mean it is Texas, but we planned poorly. So we were ready to get in some AC.

Day 2 we had breakfast at the Monument Café in downtown Georgetown. I’ve gone every trip, and I like it every time. Our next adventure was a visit to the Electrify Expo at the Circuit of the Americas in Austin. We were a little skeptical about this as we aren’t really into electric vehicles but it was an enjoyable day. The kids got to see car demos, climb into and “test out” some electric vehicles, and got to drive a baby cybertruck. I was reenergized by some free iced coffee. As an F1 fan, I was also excited to be able to walk on the starting grid of the track. Plus, Scott drove us on a lap in an electric Tacoma. I was not a fan of going 60mph; I don’t know how racers do it.

Our last day of the trip, we started out with some Round Rock donuts and took the kids to the Round Rock Play for All park. This playground had several different play options that the kids really enjoyed. Finally, we had some family time with a water balloon fight and mini Thanksgiving dinner before packing up to leave in the morning.

After incessantly annoying Scott with the idea of stopping in Waco, we stopped in Waco. I wanted to see the Magnolia Silos and the area Chip & Joanna Gaines had built up. While it was definitely heavily branded (most stores had the same products & definitely had a price tag), the open spaces were great. We all enjoyed playing on the mini baseball field and looking at Christmas décor. The abundance of restrooms was also a family plus! We stopped for a sweet treat from the silo bakery on the way out and finished our long trip home.
