NYC in a New York Minute

Is there anything better than a girl’s trip? We took a much needed break and escaped to New York City for a weekend. In a literal New York minute, we left Saturday early morning and returned late Sunday night, but we packed in a lot of the city.

Day 1:

We had a wonderful zero issues with our flight, our basic Economy seats were assigned in Delta Plus, and our hotel let us check in as soon as we arrived. I’m saying there was some travel agent magic involved 😉

After check in we took the subway to Little Italy. It was rainy and we were hungry, so it was the perfect choice for lunch. We stopped at Paesano which had the cutest fairly light, garden styled interior. I had wonderful carbonara, and apparently the Italian margarita was also delicious. When in Italy, eat like the Italians, so we also got cannoli from Ferrara Bakery & Cafe.

After wandering through the city, we explored the Oculus and 9/11 memorial. The museum is on my list for the next NYC trip.

Lots more walking happened and we picked a rooftop bar to take a break and get a drink. 230 fifth rooftop was relaxed and had great views of the Empire State Building and surrounding cityscape.

We had evening Broadway plans, so we returned to the hotel, and ordered some classic New York style pizza to the room while we got ready. It was also SO good. I wish I had eaten more.

The main reason for our trip: John Proctor is the Villain. Two of us are high school English teachers that teach The Crucible in our classes, so we planned our trip around seeing this play. It was phenomenal and currently nominated for 7 Tony awards. Five stars, highly recommend.

Next up, dinner reservations at serendipity3. The decor was whimsical, bright, and cute. But overall the food was average, in my opinion. Expensive for nothing really special besides the size. I did greatly enjoy my special frozen white hot chocolate though.

Times Square is also not my thing. The smell of the M&M’s store was nice though.

Day 2:

My must do for the trip was Bagel Pub. I saw a video of their mounds of cream cheese options and fell in love immediately. I’m still thinking about the Nutella cream cheese… it was all I hoped for.

What seemed like the windiest day ever was also the day we picked for a boat tour. With a quick stop to take terrible pictures in front of the Vessel, we then walked to our pier to board the boat. It ended up being very enjoyable and not too cold at all. We got great views of all the landmarks. It was definitely a great choice for having such a short time in the city.

It warmed up after the tour, and we walked the highline to Chelsea Market. The high line had such a unique set up and it was very cool to see the old and new juxtaposition of the city. Chelsea Market had so many food options it was overwhelming. We had excellent tacos from Los Tacos no. 1, great drinks from Mayhem, Korean snacks from Mokbar, and the most scrumptious pasteis de nata from Joey Bats Cafe. I can’t wait to go back and do a food tour!

We were thoroughly tired by this point but made our way to Greenwich village. We walked on Cornelia Street, saw the Friends apartment building, and grabbed some coffee at St. George. I loved the vibes in this area; it was quiet and felt removed from the busy city.

One more quick stop at F.A.O Schwartz to get souvenirs for the kids and then we made our way back to the airport. The terrifying uber ride led us to cheesecake, Shake Shack, and more upgraded seats.

We were exhausted, sore, and missed work the next day, but it was an unforgettable girl’s getaway. We might even be planning a trip for next year. 😉
